Pavel's punch line

Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk has been a linemate with Ilya Kovalchuk -- who will be in town with Atlanta Tuesday night -- on the Russian national team, Datsyuk was asked what competitions that he's participated in with Kovalchuk.
"World Cup. Olympics. Baltika Cup. You put that in for me. Baltika (maker of a Russian beer). Free promotion for Russian business. Maybe they send me send bucks."

Haha does Pavs really need more bucks? I thought he was making somewhere in the neighborhood of $7 million a year.

I can't wait to see Kovalchuk tomorrow night and I wish I could see him in person. He is truly one of the great goal scorers that I've seen. He has really flown under the radar all these years, probably due to playing in Georgia for so long.

Pav's got more sense of humor than he has money and that's saying a lot. Wish you guys could hear this guy every day in the locker room.

Um...bryan...what the hell are you talking about? Kovalchuk has NEVER flown under the radar.

- He was a first overall draft pick
- He was the first ever Russian drafted first overall
- He would've won the Calder trophy if it wasn't for a shoulder injury
- He was a co-winner of the Rocket Richard trophy back in 03-04
- He has scored the most goals in the league in the last (I think) 4 seasons

Bruce: you should post more quotes from Pavel.
