Detroit injuries

Coach Mike Babcock said after the game that Chris Osgood was lifted after two periods because he was dehydrated. Babcock said that the training staff pumped fluids into the netminder, but he wasn't ready for the third, thus Ty Conklin was inserted. Babcock emphasized that he would not make a move like that to rest a goalie.

The coach also said that Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk were day-to-day and that he "hoped" to see them both in Wednesday's Game 5.

If he was dehydrated, does that mean Osgood is battling the flu or something like that?

No. He's fine, just needs to get more fluids in him. Dehydration with goalies is not unusual.

I think that Babs said he "hoped" to see Dats and Lidstrom in on Wednesday only because he doesn't want to come right out and say that one or both will most certainly be out.

I don't (obviously) know what's wrong with Lidstrom, but with today's performance, I don't see any reason to rush Dats back into play. Give him the next couple days, then possibly another, what, 6-8 days off after that?

Let him rest, let him heal, let him come out with both guns blazing when they need him. If the Wings lose on Wednesday, start him Friday.
