Fil on the ice

POST-PRACTICE UPDATE: Filppula was off the ice before special-teams drills as a precaution. Coach Mike Babcock said: "We're going to find out tomorrow. That was the first time he's skated in a while. We didn't want to push it."

Update from the Red Wings' Wednesday practice ... Valtteri Filppula is on the ice and skating on the second line with Johan Franzen and Mikael Samuelsson.
The lines at practice (Note also the split of Lidstrom and Rafalski on the top two defense pairings) ...

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Franzen-Filppula-Samulesson
Cleary-Draper-Drake
Hudler-Helm-McCarty

Lidstrom-Stuart
Kronwall-Rafalski
Lebda-Chelios
Meech-Lilja

Osgood
Hasek
Howard

darn i was really hoping that Malts could take over Flips spot on the roster. Flip has been worthless this post season imo.. and a rusty Maltby will atleast bring solid defense and a steady dose of grit.

Blake,

Franzen is a great player, but his massive success also has something to do with the quality play his linemates Filppula and Samuelsson have brought this postseason.

At this point in their respective careers, Flip is equal to Maltby defensively, and with the likes of Mac, Helm, Draper, Cleary, Homer, and Franzen, Malby's "grit" isn't something the forward unit needs more of.

Anyone have official news on Maltby? I heard a Draper interview on Drew & Mike yesterday, he said he was practicing on a line with Malts and Drake.
