Update from the Red Wings' Wednesday practice ... Valtteri Filppula is on the ice and skating on the second line with Johan Franzen and Mikael Samuelsson.

darn i was really hoping that Malts could take over Flips spot on the roster. Flip has been worthless this post season imo.. and a rusty Maltby will atleast bring solid defense and a steady dose of grit.

Franzen is a great player, but his massive success also has something to do with the quality play his linemates Filppula and Samuelsson have brought this postseason.
At this point in their respective careers, Flip is equal to Maltby defensively, and with the likes of Mac, Helm, Draper, Cleary, Homer, and Franzen, Malby's "grit" isn't something the forward unit needs more of.
Anyone have official news on Maltby? I heard a Draper interview on Drew & Mike yesterday, he said he was practicing on a line with Malts and Drake.
