Hossa inks deal with Wings

TSN reports the Wings have signed coveted unrestricted free agent Marian Hossa to a one-year $7.4 million deal.
Hossa, who scored 29 goals and had 37 assists during the regular season, was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the trade deadline last season. He had 12 goals and 14 assists in the playoffs.

Bruce, there seems to be some confusion on how much space the Wings have left under the cap. It looks to me like they should hvae enough to realistically get Filppula signed, but will have to sacrifice their usual deadline day kitty as a result.

At this point, you obviously let Chelios walk if needed, and if you have to do it, you give Quincey away.

Could you verify the numbers for us? Different sources have different numbers right now so it's hard to tell.

With all do respect to Hossa I think it is a great signing. Don't the Wings risk losing great prospects in the future? Quincy, and Ericsson? I know Ericcson doesn't need to be signed till next year but they really need to look at some of these guys and realize that they are the future. Do you really want to risk letting that go?

Quincey and Ericsson don't count as "great prospects." They are marginal. I dont think many have Quincey rated higher than the 5th defensiveman on any roster and more likely a 6-7. Ericsson has a little more upside but probably as a 3-4 at best.

Hossa is a first line 100 point winger who ALSO plays defense.

You gotta put these things in perspective.
