Joey Mac in net

Checking the scores tonight and it's good to see Joey MacDonald got the start for the Islanders in their season-opener in New Jersey. MacDonald once was a Red Wings' prospect, who was lost on waivers to Boston two seasons ago. It's tough not to root for a good person like Joey, who was a key part of that highly successful Grand Rapids team that included Jiri Hudler, Valtteri Filppula, Derek Meech, Tomas Kopecky and Matt Ellis. Tonight is the 28-year-old MacDonald's 18th NHL game.

The Islanders' No. 1 goalie, Rick DiPietro, has already had surgery on both hips -- one during this offseason -- and a knee operation. DiPietro, who also has a history of concussions, was limited to one preseason appearance.

I'm glad to see that MacDonald is got himself an NHL job, but didn't BOSTON pick him up on waivers? Anyway, I'll bet DiPietro is counting down the decades until free- agency. LOL
