Quincey on waivers

The Red Wings put reserve defenseman Kyle Quincey on waivers today. General manager Ken Holland said the reason was to give the club flexibility in case it needed to make a roster move, much as the team did with Aaron Downey last season.

"If we get a goalie hurt tonight, we can't bring one up for Monday," said Holland.

Waivers last 24 hours during the week and 48 hours on the weekend, stalling player movement both ways for those not waiver exempt. If Quincey clears waivers, he'll be pre-approved to be sent to Grand Rapids for the next month, without any time needed for approval of such a move.

There is no way on earth Quincey is going to pass through waivers. Why didn't Holland just trade Quincey so they get something in return, instead of piss away a good defenseman?

Right, cause I'm sure Holland never thought about that...
